Background :

A sharp wit is indeed worth a sharp sword, but not on the same field of battle

Brythunia has always been a loosely-knit land; even its capital oscillates between two locations, depending on the wanderings of the High King.  Warring barons, for whom the king is a primus inter pares and not a God-appointed monarch, hold nominal sway over a cohort of lesser lords who are just as, if not more, warlike.

Rudraige is one such lord.  His is a turbulent existence.  When he is not fighting his neighbours over some border squabble, he is crossing swords with Nemedians over some ancient feud.  Hunting trips, either in the thick forest of the Brythunian border, or ranging out into the bleak rocky wastes of the North Lands, are the best means Rudraige knows for forging alliances or shoring up fragile peace.

Like many of his peers, Rudraige, for all his bellicose manners, is a man well-versed in law, even if it is his own personal interpretation of the common law that he seeks to impose in the lands under his sway.  His yearly plaid, where he hears appeal against the decisions of lesser magistrates, is a source both of entertainment and inspiration for the bards who wander the windswept north.

As far as Rudraige is concerned, all are entitled to a fair trial, as long as they are not Hyperboreans, for he rightly sees his pale-skinned neigbours as monsters, not men. All those in the North who fight the tyranny of the White Hand know that Rudraige is a fearless ally whom they can Always count upon.

Campaign History :

During a chance encounter with a Hyperborean Emissary in the North Lands, Rudraige makes acquaintance with the flame-haired Ygritte.  After slaying the witch, the Brythunian Lord snatches a scroll from her body which he intrigues him.  He decides to take the scroll to the sanctuary of the Aifreweia, whose inhabitants he knows well.

On the way, he crosses the path of an old enemy, the Nemedian lady Seonaid, who is pillaging the lands.  Rudraige crosses swords with her and brings her low, but suffers a wound in the process.

Reaching the Aifreweia, which has recently beaten off an attack by an evil necromantic horde, Rudraige is completely healed of his wounds by one of the sanctuary's warrior nuns, Chimène.  She joins him, on a quest to ward off a terrible Hyperborean plot.  Rudraige faces up to a Hyperborean emissary, which leaves him with some particularly nasty scars, and hatred as fierce as the flames that consume the Northlands village burnt by the witch.

The adventurers have saved a child from the massacre, but the Hyperboreans are tracking them.  To save the little girl, Rudraige leaves her with Cadmendin and strikes north alone.  Dangers abound in these hostile lands, and he attracts the attention of a Werewolf and his hunting pack.  Sadly, it comes to be that he has given no less than his life to this quest.
