Chapter II : Blood Feud - The Adventure

The scenario can be found here.

The Nemedian camp
The Nemedian camp

Time to crack open a barrel of ale

The two archers, Ygritte and Gawayn, concentrated their fire on the Grey Man-Ape itself, hoping to slay the beast before it could be unleashed, much to Rudraige's disappointment.  The shieldwall [Sacrifice] of the Nemedian infantry held good however, and fate swept aside the arrows that attained the chained creature.  Rudraige plunged among the tents, sending Nemedian soldiers to the afterlife and pillaging their belongings, finding an axe which he threw into another soldiers face, then a Life Potion which would prove vital shortly afterwards.

Seonaid quickly recognised the shock of orange hair, and snarling with rage, sent her men to protect and unleash the giant ape, whilst advancing and rallying her bodyguards around her [Event : To Our Lady !].

A shield-wall protects the ape

Arrows continued to fly, but the Nemedians got the Giant Ape free, paying for it with the lives of two men.  An arrow from Gawayn wounded it deeply, but it now stood free, frothing at the mouth with uncontained rage.  To boot, Nemedian reinforcements had arrived [the Overlord having let the Grey Man-Ape devour the last Nemedian Crossbowmen, and having cleaned the River of their two tiles, the Event was once more within reach, ndlr].

That is uncontrolled rage...

Rudraige, alone in the midst of the enemy camp, having taken a minor wound from a Nemedian spear, decided it was safer to withdraw and join Gawayn.
Seonaid held back the assault of the Grey Ape, a delay which proved fatal.  With three arrows, Ygritte dispatched the two Nemedian infantry protecting the beast, leaving Gawayn with a clean shot.  The huntsman's instincts drove the arrow home [with a 5 orange dice shot, one yellow reroll, and three more rerolls required, right down to the last energy gem !, ndlr]. With a thunderous roar, a quarter-ton of muscle crashed to the ground, and lay still.

For Rudraige, the path was open to Seonaid.  He charged towards her, but her two bodyguards stood firm, and though both were slain, their Lady was able to avoid the Brythunian's sword blow.  Her counter bounced off her enemy's armour, but more Nemedian infantry, the previous reinforcements, now swarmed in.  Rudraige was overwhelmed and although he fought like a fox, was severely wounded.  This is where the Life Potion that he had found a few minutes ago turned out to be a life saver.

Ygritte swept in, and thanks to both her natural speed, and her uncanny skill as a combat archer [Elite Shooter], killed another two of Seonaid's bodyguards, leaving her isolated.  Fortified by the potion coursing through his veins, Rudraige stepped forward and smote his lifelong enemy with one well-placed blow [the Life Potion having given him just enough to use all 4 possible attack dice, ndlr].

Duel to the death

Another exciting scenario in which both sides have to carefully pace their efforts.  The Heroes emerge victorious.  Rudraige might have paid a heavy price, were it not for the salutary effects of the life potion.  He has 1 additional gem in the Wound Zone, and has gained another +3 XP.

Although Ygritte was not wounded during the action, the exertion worsened the effects of her previous wounds.  She has 1 additional gem in the Wound Zone; but has gained +1 XP and a well-crafted Bossonian bow left behind by the fleeing enemy.

Gawayn received only a flesh wound from a Nemedian crossbow bolt, that caused him no permanent harm.  He gains +3 XP.
